Tummy fat is one of those parts of the body that seems to get the raw end of the stick. I mean how many hundreds of situps and crunches must one really do to ever get a lean flat midsection? How much cardio must one commit to before they see any results? When is too much - too much? There are so many fads out there telling you this and that on how to get rid of tummy fat - and most of them are telling you the wrong things. This article is going to show you how you are making 3 mistakes that are stopping you from losing your tummy fat and how avoiding them will get you the results you want - a flat lean midsection.

Tummy fat is a problem for both men and women. I don't know how many times I used to go to the beach and see other guys with their washboard abs and think to myself how great it would be if I were like that too. So I would go to the gym and vigorously run a workout that included hours of cardio and endless situps, crunches and curls. I got to about 6 weeks into this routine of mine and had made no progress whatsoever - I mean I still had that pot belly - so I did a little research and found out some interesting things. What I found was that what I was doing was actually stopping me from losing that tummy fat. The 3 mistakes I made were

1. I was eating alot of so called 'healthy foods' at the time - and what I didn't realize is that they are actually full of sugar, artificial sweeteners, preservatives and packed with salt. So although they claimed to be 'healthy' - they had so much sugar I wasn't getting any results. Things like diet yogurts, diet biscuits etc

2. All of the ab exercises I was doing were actually the least effective way to get flat abs - so I was doing all those ab workouts for nothing! What I found out was that to get a flat tummy you have to get rid of the fat above the ab muscles - working them out with all those crunches does strengthen the muscles but it would never get me a flat tummy doing them. Unbelievable! Who would have thought that doing ab exercises doesn't get you a flat tummy?

3. Cardio - this is something else I found hard to believe. I spent a lot of my time running on treadmills in the belief that it would help lose that belly fat, but it didn't work. I found out that the best way to lose the tummy fat was to actually get a full complete workout that uses all of your large muscle groups. This increases your heart rate, you burn more calories than just running, and your body continues to burn the calories for up to 48 hours after you stop the exercise. Also when you perform exercises like this you are actually also in inadvertently working your abs at the same time because you are bracing them.

So now that I had this information - I put it to the test. I started a workout that actually had very little ab exercises (but I still included some ab exercises but not like I was before) I began running less on the treadmill and really watched what I ate when I wanted to eat those 'healthy' foods, I also got myself a good program that made me work my large muscles - and do you know what? I actually began to see result in 2 weeks - who would ever have thought that to get a flat tummy and get rid of belly fat that you would only have to perform large muscle movements and only limited cardio and ab workouts?

Now if you are like me and believed you were doing the right thing and your not getting the results you want - then you really should try to avoid the above 3 mistakes, and and see how long it is before you start getting results.
